Craigslist Monday: I need inspiration!

19 05 2008

Happy Monday my thrifty deal nabbers!

This is the second Craigslist Monday that has come and almost gone without me finding anything that really struck me as a GREAT deal! In fact, I’ve had more luck selling stuff on craigslist this weekend than I’ve had finding anything to share with ya’ll.

I think the problem is I’m not feeling inspired. So I need HELP! I’ve decorated a new apartment for under $500, I’ve shown you what $20 could get, I’ve created a feminine sitting room, and I’ve shown you the interesting stuff you could buy if money were no object. I need more themes. What kind of things are you guys looking for? What cities are ya’ll in? I think I need to mix it up more, show you what you could get in other cities outside of Atlanta… hmm, what about Atlanta versus (blank) city, with a price amount?

I know this is a popular feature- almost as popular as “In the Trenches” - so I want to keep it going. This is where great reader input is useful! If you don’t feel comfortable leaving a comment, send me an e-mail: snhamlett at gmail dot com.

In the meanwhile, I am very excited to tell you that one of our favorite “In the Trenches” guests, Benita of Chez Larrson, has just started her own blog!!! You have to go by and visit her, I know she’ll have all kind of great ideas to inspire you. You can find her at http://www.chezlarsson.typepad.com.

That’s it for now! Send me those theme suggestions and I’ll be back with a fresh Craigslist Monday next week.

xoxo - Shauntelle

I’d love to see Atlanta vs. Detroit!

How about doing a dining room for under 100? (Table, chairs, chandelier, rug, etc) It seems a lot of people nowadays don’t eat in their dining rooms, maybe if they spruced it up, they’d want to sit in their with their families.

Feminine bedroom for the single mom? Cabbage roses, antique iron bed?

A tween’s room that needs to look less girly and more grown up?

I love Craig’s List Mondays!

I like the idea of doing a “what $100 buys you in today’s city this week” or even an “Atlanta vs. today’s city” comparison. I’m in DC and am quickly overwhelmed by CL here, mostly because I don’t know whether the price is good or not. It would be fun to see what’s availalbe in other locales and what a certain amount of $$ might get that day/weekend.

Also, I think it would be fun to pick some far-reaching locales and see what they’ve got - like what Wichita residents are offering, or perhaps Rochester, NY. You might find some surprises! Good luck - I look forward to reading about your CL finds!

Hey, I don’t buy much for myself anymore as my house is filled to the brim. But I do look for things for clients. It is always great to find mid to high quality brands at great prices. For instance, I found a $3500 Williams Sonoma sofa for a client a month or so ago at a consignment shop for a great deal (I think it was $600??). I’ve found Ethan Allen bookcases, beds and chairs too. I’m in Portland Oregon. Not sure I can come up with any themes for you, but finding quality brands for less always thrills my clients! Keep up the good work, more inspiration will come, I’m sure of it!

Happy day,
Melissa

I find it interesting that you can always find neat things on craisglist. I’m in the Philadelphia area and I very rarely see anything interesting at a price that’s not outrageous. it would be fun to see what’s in different cities.

I agree with Melissa. I also think you could try furnishing one room per week. I also just like to see what you find that you think is a good deal - whether it fits in a theme or not. Basically we’ll be happy to see whatever you show us! :-)

Shauntelle,

I’d love to see what you could do with my office/kid’s play room. I am a writer and my office is in the living room, which is where the kids play… and I try to write great books… It’s very crowded.

What about a ‘working at home with kids’ theme… because sometimes it’s very unstylish and messy!

I think it would be cool to do other cities, like Chicago. I love this feature, so don’t lose it! Jen R
